Who would have thought that the traditional game of checkers would develop into a checkers online game? Frankly speaking, anyone with even the slightest bit of knowledge of the world of video and computer games could predict that checkers would find itself on the internet. The only thing that matters is how long will the progression takes. It seems that checkers has evolved into a game that will outlast for many more generations with the introduction of the online version.

Thirty odd years ago, the video game boom started with the introduction of the very primitive home game system Pong. Pong was a crude game that involving rectangles representing the players of sports such as tennis or hockey knocking a dot representing a ball or a puck back and forth across a black and white screen. Ok, that hardly sounds impressive by today’s standards, but in 1976, Pong was high tech! In the early 1980’s, Pong’s creators, Atari, eventually released a more advanced system known as the Atari 2600 and one of the earliest games it released was a video version of checkers. This release proved very successful with the masses. (Atari had released variations of checkers for its computer systems, but home computers were no where near as prevalent in 1981 as they are today) Since that time, checkers has remained a home video game staple and has even expanded into the cybernet highway.

What makes checkers online so interesting is that one can play a checkers online with an opponent from anywhere in the world! So, there will never be a shortage of competition no matter how good of a checkers online player you are!

In addition, some of the more advanced checkers online software even allow one to play and chat at the same time. This means that you can actually use the game as a form of keeping in contact with your friends, without leaving the comfort of you home. Can you find a better way than this?

It is quite interesting that such a fairly simple game that is several hundreds of years old continues to find an audience as well as being able to adapt to an every changing world that is heavily rooted in technology. Perhaps the miraculous is found exclusively in the ordinary and the prominence of checkers online games is a testament to this.
